My goal as a teacher is to share with my clients how Pilates can be beneficial to their body, mind, and health. Pilates can be for everyone and I believe in creating welcoming, inclusive, and uplifting experiences for each of my clients.
I pride myself on offering a studio style experience in each session, and like to focus on mindful movement; truly helping clients to connect with their mind and body through their practice. I’ve gained the deep knowledge required to teach the full Joseph Pilates Classical repertoire and its modifications and adaptations to beginners and experienced Pilates clients. I have also specialised in teaching the Pilates apparatus exercises. I teach both groups and individuals in studio, 1-2-1, 2-1.
My professional development has led me to train and work with experts at a global level in the Pilates method such as; Alexa Idama - Low Impact Fit, Lisa B, Daphne Peña-Higgs, Blossom Leilani Crawford, Maria Earle, Brooke Siler, Nancy Castiglioni, Dr. Emily Splichal, The Pilates Centre, Balanced Body, BASI, APPI, and more.
Much of my education and regular practice comes from teachers with direct lineage to Joseph Pilates such as Romana Kryzanowska, Jay Grimes, Kathy Grant, Lolita San Miguel & Ron Fletcher. I share their enthusiasm and passion for teaching, and keep the heart of Joseph Pilates method alive in my sessions.
Another specialism within my teaching is Barre, which is ballet-inspired and Pilates-focussed. Barre is an excellent way to strengthen the body ensuring correct technique and alignment.
My Pilates
My introduction to Pilates came in my early 20’s when I discovered that I have Scoliosis (I have an S-shaped curvature in my spine). My physiotherapist recommended I begin regular Pilates sessions in order to reduce my discomfort, pain, and to understand my body better. I have practised Pilates throughout my adult life and thoroughly enjoy all the variations that different Pilates sessions and teachers offer. My Pilates practise has increased my strength, mobility, and flexibility; and now in my 4th decade, I feel fitter and healthier than ever before.
Pilates has taught me to address my imbalances and strengthened the deep muscles in my core. I’ve taught my body how to stand and move in better alignment, as well as increasing my balance. Over the years I have benefited from the endless rewards that come with practising Pilates and continue to do so as a teacher. It was very much a natural progression to become a teacher and share my passion, enthusiasm, and growing knowledge for the Pilates method.
Ensuring I have a healthy and flexible spine is an ongoing goal for my own practise. Pilates has taught me to move mindfully and has helped to reduce stress and anxiety. I have also benefited from enhanced concentration and improved sleep from my own practise.
My life before Pilates looked very different. After graduating from University I took a traditional path and began working for the BBC in broadcast journalism; I adored my work and time spent in radio, it was there that I began to develop my communication and journalism skills. I then moved into corporate environments for several years, working for various global brands such as Pizza Hut, WeWork & Schwarzkopf; always in a digital marketing and communications capacity.
It certainly wasn’t uncommon to spend many hours at a desk, or driving / travelling for long periods. This meant it was crucial for me to balance my work and my Pilates practise each week in order to feel happy and comfortable in my body. Pilates has always been a priority for me, the linchpin of my wellbeing and now, the key focus for my career.
“Pilates is the complete coordination of body, mind and spirit.”
